Flexibility in everyday life
When the opportunity arose, Bankdata chose to build a new canteen at its headquarters in Erritsø, Fredericia. The ambition was to create a new gathering place for employees and the many activities that are part of everyday life.
The extension was designed by Vallentin | Haugland Arkitekter, while the interior was developed in close collaboration between Input Interiør and Søren Blicher Madsen, Team Lead, Building & Operations at Bankdata, who has been the project lead throughout. Extend Free Standing is designed and supplied by apto plus.
The new canteen is much more than a place where the day’s meals are served. It functions as a shared gathering point in everyday life and also provides the setting for everything from informal meetings to larger shared events and town hall meetings. That’s why it was crucial that the interior design and selected furniture could be adapted to different needs.
With Extend Free Standing on wheels, which functions as screening, the room can quickly be rearranged depending on the situation. In everyday use, the modules form a wall of acoustic felt panels and planter boxes between the serving area and the dining spaces. Here, they create calm, structure and a pleasant division of the room.

Screening on wheels
Flexibility has been a guiding principle throughout the entire interior. Large parts of the fixtures are mounted on wheels, so the canteen can quickly be transformed from an everyday dining area into town hall meetings, receptions and other larger events.
The same idea underpins the screening solutions from apto plus. Bankdata wanted a system that could be moved as needed without compromising aesthetics or function.
The choice fell on Extend Free Standing, made in three- and four-bay modules on wheels. The modules combine acoustic felt panels in a warm beige shade with oak planter boxes, adding green elements and softening the large spaces.
The final project
Even outside the building, the details are well thought out. The extension’s brick façades naturally tie in with the existing architecture.
The result is a canteen that works as much more than a dining room. It has become a flexible gathering point where architecture, materials and interior design support both the working day and the communities that form around it.
